Back to School: Preventing Sick Days

Back-to-school time is upon us! As our kids get back on the bus and into the gyms and cafeteria, what’s the number one thing we should do to help keep our kids healthy? Remind them to clean their hands early and often and give them the means to do so.

  • Drop a travel-size hand sanitizer or pack of hand wipes in their backpack or lunch box so they can clean up before they eat and after they ride the bus.
  • Offer fun rewards for how often kids wash their hands each day (and when)!
  • Set a good example by washing your own hands at home and on the go.

Parents and teachers, looking for fun ways to remind kids to wash their hands? Check out our Healthy Schools, Healthy People, It’s a SNAP initiative, in partnership with the CDC. There are lots of resources and information as well as a way to get students involved in teaching handwashing habits as part of a national award program.
