Have you thought about where the ingredients come from in your cleaning products? World Nature Conservation Day is a call to action for every individual, business, and community to take steps to preserve the planet’s resources. Manufacturers in the cleaning supply chain are at the forefront of this shift, striving to reduce their ecological impact by sourcing ingredients responsibly. Here are some of their stories:
Inolex
Inolex has been recognized by the American Cleaning Institute as a gold level member of the sustainable feedstocks initiative. This recognizes their work in using more sustainable raw materials to create their cleaning product ingredients, including in the following ways (as of 2022):
- Inolex has increased the used of biobased ingredients with 59% of the carbon sold by weight from biobased sources with the remaining 41% from petrochemical origin
- Inolex is dedicated to purchasing sustainable sugarcane-derivatives with 78% by weight purchased being Bonsucro certified
- Inolex has been a RSPO member since 2012 and 100% of their palm and palm kernel derivatives are RSPO Mass Balance certified
Monosol
MonoSol, a Kuraray Company, leverages the expertise of its team of chemists, engineers and innovators to create safer, simpler, and more sustainable solutions using water-soluble technology. Their polyvinyl alcohol (PVA/PVOH) films encapsulate concentrated detergents and dishwasher capsules. MonoSol is advancing its natural polymer program, transitioning from a 25% to a 50% bio-based solution and working towards 100% plant-based material, enhancing sustainability in their already eco-friendly products.
Novonesis
Novonesis harnesses the power of nature to develop effective cleaning ingredients like enzymes and microbes. These naturally occurring components are integral to our daily lives and offer eco-friendly, high-performance solutions for cleaning and laundry. Enzymes are particularly effective, breaking down tough stains and residues, whether it’s for brightening clothes, sanitizing dishes, or industrial cleaning applications. Similarly, microbes play a vital role by providing ongoing cleaning and stain removal on surfaces, continuing to break down harmful substances long after the initial cleaning is done.
These are just a few examples of how the manufacturers of cleaning product ingredients are working to develop more sustainable options. By choosing biodegradable, renewable, and ethically-sourced ingredients, companies reduce harm to the environment and foster a circular economy.
