How to Get Your Closets Ready for Spring

With the first day of spring just weeks away, now’s the time to freshen up your closets so your sunny-weather wardrobes are ready to wear when the weather gets warm!

Before storing or switching out winter-weather clothes, check them for stains and launder them, if necessary. If you have an overabundance of clothes, you may decide to “detox” your closet, by checking each garment for condition and fit and donating items that just aren’t cutting it.

While you are switching out wardrobes, clean your closet floor of dirt and dust that collected over the winter months. Don’t forget to wipe down shelves and doors.

It helps to organize your clothes at the start of the season, so that you can easily find what you’re looking for. Organize by color or style (or both), and you’ll be on your way to a stylish spring.

For extra credit, if you love scents, consider adding a sachet of lavender or trying a new detergent fragrance to bring spring blossoms into your closet. It can be a great way to boost your mood and start your day off with a refreshing change of pace for the season.

I have always enjoyed your newsletters and they often give me ideas for my weekly newspaper columns. I have been enjoying “Cleaning Matters” since I first became acquainted with your group when you would have a booth at our National Extension Family Consumer Science (Formerly called extension home economics) conventions. Always enjoyed the excellent tips and information.
