Preparing College Students for Cleaning

As parents drop kids off at college for the first time, they often wonder if they’re ready. One aspect that may need a little more work is cleaning knowledge. Students are usually ready to hit the books as they head to college, but they’re not always fully prepped to wash their clothes and clean their rooms According to the latest data, parents and teens agree that this is an area for growth. This is an important gap to fill because the close quarters of dorm living can be a hotbed for the spread of germs. With a little guidance, college students can be confident in their cleaning prowess and can focus on their studies.

The Class of Clean Toolkit helps get students ready with the basics. It includes things like a laundry guide, because many students come to school without having done their own washing before and nearly half of parents predict their college kids will bring home laundry expecting someone else to do it for them.

Resources include:

  • Move In Checklist
  • Stain Removal Guide
  • Cleaning with a Sick Roommate Handout
  • Laundry 101 Guide
  • The Good Roommate Checklist

In addition, there is some extra credit on the benefits of washing in cold water and some prerequisites on using cleaning products safely and effectively.

Do you know someone headed to school? Share the toolkit and help them start out at the head of their class on keeping their dorm room clean. Afterall, no one wants to be the messy roommate!
